This is a love story between a conventional cowboy raised in the old-school way of ranching and a hippie earth mother committed to a back-to-the-land organic lifestyle.
Tonia and Randy Rupe were high school sweethearts growing up in Wichita. When they reunited and married later in life, she persuaded Randy to adopt the organic approach to ranching and they founded Lucky Star Farms on 3,000 acres in the Flint Hills of Kansas, in Greenwood County, halfway between Eureka and Cassoday.
Tonia and Randy both are longtime shoppers at GreenAcres in Wichita and so it seemed only natural that they would partner with the family-owned network of health food stores to sell Lucky Star's grass-fed Angus beef and pasture-raised heritage pork.
