Mercedes-Benz has updated its entire mid-size van family, including passenger and commercial versions, with both internal combustion engine and all-electric guises, making them more premium than before. The product range includes EQV and V Class passenger vans, V Class Marco Polo caravan as well as Vito and eVito Light Commercial Vehicles. All feature slight visual tweaks and reworked interiors that add more safety, comfort and technology equipment.
The models are based on the third-generation V-Class, which was launched in 2014 and received its first facelift in 2019. The new update brings a redesigned front bumper with a significantly larger grille and more modern air intakes. Each model has a unique grille design with different embellishments. Predictably, the passenger-focused V-Class and EQV look more luxurious, while the commercial Vito and eVito take a more utilitarian approach, with unpainted bumpers in entry-level form.
Apart from new wheels (17, 18 and 19 inches), new color palette, V-Class and EQV's sleeker rear bumper, the rest of the body is largely the same. Optionally, the AMG Line and Night packages for the V-Class and the EQV package for the electric version can further spice up their appearance. Depending on the trim, passenger vans feature an LED strip around the grille and Multibeam LED headlights.
The interior is another point of distinction between the passenger and commercial series. The V-Class and EQV feature a single-panel digital cockpit housing dual 12.3-inch displays, while the instrument panel looks almost as premium as Mercedes' mainstream car and SUV products, thanks to new air conditioning vents and ambient lighting. On the other hand, Vito and eVito have a simpler layout with a 10.25-inch touchscreen and a 5.5-screen display on the instrument panel, and an instrument panel setup that focuses on practicality, albeit with a less simple approach compared to previous models.
All models feature the new MBUX infotainment system. While commercial minibuses offer maintenance, accident and breakdown management services, passenger minibuses benefit from features such as music streaming, Energizing comfort programs and augmented reality navigation. Electric models (EQV and eVito) support preconditioning and intelligent navigation with route planning and charging options.
The safety kit has also been upgraded with new and improved driver assistance features such as Active Lane Keeping Assist, Intelligent Speed Assist and Blind Spot Assist. Active Distance Assist Distronic comes standard on the EQV and V Series and is optional on the Vito and eVito.
The company hasn't mentioned any changes to the powertrain, which likely means the current lineup will be carried over. As a refresher, the newly released EQV came with a single electric motor producing 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS) and 362 Nm (267 lb-ft) of torque. The electric van was offered with two different battery capacities, 60 kWh for the EQV 250 and 90 kWh for the EQV 300, and could travel up to 418 km (260 miles) between charges. The ICE-powered lineup included 1.7, 2.0 and 2.2-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder powertrains.
Mercedes has sold 40,000 electric pickup trucks to date and wants them to account for more than half of total pickup truck sales by 2030. A major step forward will be the launch of the new modular and scalable Van Electric Architecture (VAN.EA) in 2026. It will eventually form the basis of Mercedes' next generation electric medium and large vans.
