A short documentary by Matt Burns made in 2001 for his Boston University Ancient Chinese Civilizations class. The short discusses Shang Yang's legalism philosophy and his reforms in the state of Qin circa 300 B.C. Yang's emphasis on the State's power over the people's power is a timeless Chinese philosophy that is still very much prevalent in China today. Moreover, Yang's philosophy gave birth to what-would-later-become a communist-like mentality where the collective is viewed as as being more important than the individual.
