This mom, pregnant to a dizygotic twin pregnancy (so diamniotic and dichorinic which is always the case with dizygotic twinning) had premature contractions beginning at 29 weeks. We were successful at stopping the contractions for 5 weeks and a single set administration of corticosteroids was given to her immediately upon admission to the hospital.
The pregnancy continued at the hospital for two days and then at home with strict bed rest and continuing with the contraction stopping oral medications. We saw her every week and did NST testing and saw no contractions .
Then one day, at the beginning of her 35th week she complained about a watery discharge. On exam we detected rupture of the membranes and a cervical opening of about 5 cm.
We decided to deliver the babies with cesarean section and she deliverd a boy of 1780 grams and a girl of 2250 grams.
The boy stayed at the NICU for 10 days and the girl only for 4 days.
Babies and the mother (and the father) are all doing well.
