Travel to Germany with your taste buds by making these delicious candied nuts. They are called Gebrannte Mandeln and traditionally almonds are sold in markets in Germany. However, you can use any nuts you choose; this time I did almonds and pecans.
Please leave a comment and let me know if you plan to try this recipe or if you have tried it. I would love to hear from you.
What you will need:
Heavy-bottomed pot (I use a Dutch oven) ( [ Ссылка ] )
Wooden spoon ( [ Ссылка ] ) or spatula ( [ Ссылка ] )
Baking tray lined with a silicone baking mat ( [ Ссылка ] ) or parchment paper
Ingredients:
1/3 cup + 2 tbsp water
1 ½ cup + ½ cup sugar divided
1 ½ tsp cinnamon
¼ tsp salt
2 ½ cups raw nuts (I used almonds and pecans)
2 tsp vanilla extract
Directions:
Prepare your cookware and measure your ingredients beforehand.
Put pot on medium high flame
Add the water and 1 ½ cup sugar, cinnamon and salt to the pot and stir until well incorporated and bring to a boil.
Add nuts and stir occasionally until the syrup starts getting thick. Once it starts thickening stir constantly. The water will evaporate, and the sugar will look powdery and chalky.
Keep stirring until the powdery sugar starts re-melting and the powdery sugar starts sticking to the nuts in clumps. The nuts will begin to start looking shiny.
Add the reserved ½ cup of sugar and the vanilla extract.
Stir until the sugar melts and most of the nuts are shiny and turn the stove off.
Immediately transfer the nuts to the lined baking sheet and spread into a layer. Don’t touch the hot nuts!!
Let the nuts cool and harden and enjoy!!
Store in an airtight container.
