COP27, 개도국 기후재앙 '손실과 피해' 기금 역사적 합의
As the UN Climate Change Conference in Egypt came to an end on Sunday, the delegates to COP27, representing almost all the countries in the world, have agreed to set up a "loss and damage" fund to compensate poor countries that've been hit by climate disasters.
The landmark deal on Sunday came after intense, prolonged negotiations between developed and developing countries.
Details on the size of the fund, when it would be set up and how it would be run, however, remain unclear, with the summit's final text mentioning only the launch of a transitional committee.
Critics have also pointed out that the text failed to strengthen calls to cut down on greenhouse gas emissions and the use of fossil fuels.
The conference, meanwhile, reaffirmed the existing goal of limiting global warming to 1-point-5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels despite some national efforts to roll it back.
