Here are 3 hats that I crocheted from one large skein of yarn. I was happy to get 3 hats. All of which will be donated to a local homeless shelter. I have partnered with 2 local organizations and will be donating hats, scarves, shawls and blankets for the winter.

In early 2021, I was suffering from extreme anxiety and on the way to depression. One day while scrolling through Instagram I saw a friend had started crocheting and was showing some of the items she had made. I thought to myself, "I used to crochet years ago and really enjoyed it, maybe I should search for classes in the area." Due to COVID, none of my local craft stores were offering in person classes, so I began searching YouTube. While searching, I found tons of tutorials for beginners. So off to the store I went. I stocked up on all sorts of yarn, having no idea what I was buying, I just bought.
I was able to find a beginner blanket pattern and went to work. I found the blanket to be easy and then started making other things like, hats, scarves and shawls. That Christmas everyone in my family got a crocheted item. I was so happy that I had I had found something to help with my anxiety.
When I realized that I had ran out of stuff to make for the family, I went back to YouTube. This time I was just looking for easy to make items, that I could possibly sell. Why not turn this love into a business. While searching I found a video on how to make an easy beanie. So I clicked on the video to watch. During the video, the presenter says, "these are easy to make if you want to donate them" and a new idea was born. I would make some beanies to donate.
I had no idea of shelters in my area, but I wanted to get them made so when I found the perfect organization(s), I’d be ready.
I didn’t have any yarn so my husband and I ran to my local Walmart. On the way in, we were met by some young girls taking donations for a local women's shelter so they could purchase blankets, hats and scarves. I stopped in my tracks and my heart begin to flutter. My husband and I just stopped and stared at each other. As I felt this was a definite sign from God.
So began My Handmade Ministry. This is my personal mission to make handmade items for anyone living in shelters that are looking for a new start. Whether they’ve been abused, homeless or just a bout of bad luck. As a battered woman myself, I know a little
bit about this.
I know so people will say, “why don’t you just buy them instead of make it “. Well, I could do that, but that’s not from the heart. When I sit down and begin making an item, I think about the person that maybe wearing it and their story. I hope it will bring a little spark of hope knowing that this was made with them in mind.
Along with the handmade items, I also want to be able to add a Bible. Some people have never had a Bible of their own and never read God's word. My hope is that everyone that receives one of these bundles; an item and a Bible, will find their way to God and His love. I'm hoping to change the world, one donated item at a time.
This is where you come in. I need money for the Bibles, the yarn and boxes to place the items in. I will also need gas money to travel to the different shelters. I'm looking long term here and I really want this to explode and be huge. If it's God's will.
