Today I want to compare DEXA to other methods of measuring body composition and show you why DEXA is the gold standard. The major advantage of DEXA is the consistency, accuracy and precision of the results between scans.
Many people come to Bodyscan wanting an accurate measurement of their body fat. They ask, “are DEXA scans accurate” and “how accurate are they?”
*DEXA is universally regarded as the gold standard for measuring accurate body fat composition, which ultimately means it is very accurate. Or in other words, it delivers the truth. If the report says you have 16kg of fat, then we take that as a fact.
Even if we believe that DEXA or anything else is accurate, what’s perhaps more important than accuracy is consistency.
When you’re measuring something that doesn’t stay the same (such as your levels of fat and muscle), you need to know that you’re measuring the subject in exactly the same way every single time and you’re not introducing external errors.
And it is consistency and accuracy where DEXA wins hands down and trumps every other measurement method. Another way to think of consistency is the accuracy of measuring changes.

Bodyscan is the UK's only company dedicated to accurately measuring body composition with DEXA technology. Since 2015 we have performed over 17,000 scans!
Bodyscan will tell you exactly how much fat you have now, how much you need to lose, the amount of food you should eat every day and how long it will take to get there.
Visceral fat is ‘bad’ fat around your organs and increases your risk of heart disease and other nasties. We’ll assess your risk and how much you need to shift with diet and exercise.
If you're inactive or naturally skinny, chances are you have low muscle mass. We'll measure how much lean mass you have now and what you need to do to get big. Or bigger.
