WALVIS BAY, 13 DEC (NAMPA) – The first ever Marine Amphibious soldiers in Namibia graduated at Walvis Bay on Thursday.
The 17 soldiers were trained in sea and land combats, which include diving, shooting and athletic.
The three-in-one graduation ceremony took place at the Rooikop Naval Base and was witnessed by Chief of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF) Lieutenant General John Mutwa and Namibian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Peter Vilho.
The graduation also saw 93 marine recruits graduating in courses such as Soldiers Formation Course and Infantry Specialisation Course.
They completed 11 months of intensive training at Okahandja Military School and the Marine School at Walvis Bay.
The Brazilian Marines Advisory and Training Team (BRAZMATT) assisted with the training.
“All these courses were conducted by the BRAZMATT in order for Namibian Marines to benchmark our standards against that of the Brazilian Marine Corps and tap into their vast experience in marine warfare and riverine operations,” said Marine Commandant Captain Navy Appolos Haimbala.
