Up to 84 percent of Americans ages 55 to 64 have at least one pre-existing condition. There are a number of illnesses and conditions that meet these criteria... from life-threatening illnesses to manageable chronic conditions. According to the Department of Health and Human Services, the most common pre-existing conditions are: High blood pressure, behavioral health disorders, high cholesterol, asthma or chronic lung disease, heart conditions, diabetes, and cancer. Pregnancy is also considered a pre-exiting condition. That means a woman is covered even if she is pregnant before her coverage begins.
