STORYLINE:
Colombian police seized a little more than 5 tons of cocaine and 7 tons of marijuana in the last three days in different parts of the country, government officials said on Sunday.
Police said the drugs belonged to the FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia) rebel group and two drug gangs, the "Rastrojos" and the "Urabenos."
Officers seized the drugs in the regions of Guajira, Norte de Santander, Casanare, Cauca and Valle de Cauca.
Government officials held a news conference in Guajira on Sunday to display the seized drugs.
General Luis Perez, Director of Colombia's Anti-Narcotics Police, said some of the drugs were seized in trucks, while other caches were seized in underground bunkers and in rural drug labs.
The police chief said that at least two people were captured in one of the operations.
Officials say most of the drugs were ready to be sent to Central America, and then on to the United States.
Perez said the seizures were a strong blow against the finances of the rebels.
