The Motorola Beepers was made famous by Seattle’s Sir Mix-a-Lot when Macklemore was a baby! That was in 1988.

Next, we could receive more than just phone numbers, by having an operator take a message and type it into our pagers. That was expansive and not private at all.

But then, the holy grail. We could upgrade to pagers and then setup our email to send a second copy of each email to our alpha numeric pagers!! Could it get any better??

Yes it could, thanks to Canada. Those smarties at Research in Motion put a tiny thumb keyboard below the screen of a pager in a perfect thumb optimized parabola to type messages on.

Thus beginning the dot-com-era where people would be looking down at their devices and not paying attention to one another. Blame Canada.
