Finished with the customers Browning Golden Eagle Mark III. A few bad caps replaced, main can cap on receiver the ground lugs where twisted on but not soldered. Front end Nuvistor tube was replaced in a previous video, Ping cap replaced, transmitter the meter switch wafer was cracked in 1/2. I didn't have a meter switch. nor did I want to work that hard on it so I super glued it. Its working well so far, but I wouldn't keep dickering with it a lot. Output power had been modded for a high dead key with the power voltage dropping resistor strapped with a 2nd resistor in parallel. Customer actually wanted dead key lowered to around 1 1/2 watts so the parallel strapped resistor was removed and a new resistor was added in series to lower the tx voltage. Radio was then tuned up and is working good.
Kinda sad that my station now has a 10db constant noise level though. Takes all the fun out of CB'ing. My ears are plugged. Unless its a strong or close local, or skip is running good, forget about it. My antenna is at about 35 ft and going higher will help, and my coax is 20 years old so new coax will help too. At 60 around the corner for me, I'm just not up to climbing roofs anymore. Maybe next year I will try to mitigate that or better yet, get my crank up tower and beams up. Until then, I get what I got. I just missed recording one of the locals talking skip and complaining about the same thing, the high noise level. He is in Detroit too and just now getting the noise. He is also on a beam, but it is also up only about 35ft. No expert on antenna's and noise but I think getting those antenna's up in the air and over the noise will help a lot. BTW, I recently had a CB'er in the mobile come visit. He had 7lb's of noise in his car while in my driveway. Hence, it is not coming in thru the ac power lines.
