Robin Cook, the British Foreign Secretary, was in a dilemma (or possibly a Dalai Lama) back in 1999. The Chinese Head of State was visiting Britain; should Robin mention Tibet or Human Rights, given that his foreign policy had an ethical dimension? He solved the problem by picking up his ukulele and bursting into song in the George Formby style.
