The heather moorland of England’s Uplands, rarer than tropical rainforests, is home to some of the country’s rarest birds: like golden plovers, lapwing, curlew and black grouse. To compete for territory and a mate, male black grouse assemble at dawn and fan out their tail feathers, making a strange gurgling noise.
