(18 Aug 2016) A Japanese patrol vessel was on Thursday turned over to the Philippine coast guard in an official ceremony in Manila's harbour.
The 44-metre (144 feet) BRP Tubbataha is the first of ten multi-role response vessels to be delivered under an official development assistance project funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency, according to officials.
Coast guard officials said the vessels will be used primarily for rescue missions, disaster response, and to enforce maritime laws, especially those related to illegal fishing and sea patrol, according to local media.
