Di Pietro is a former magistrate turned politician, he was the prosecutor behind the "Mani Pulite" corruption trials between 1992 and 1994 that saw many party leaders and ministers (Craxi, Altissimo, Andreotti just to name a few) banned from politics or straight up charged for cooperating with the mafia (Check out the Scalfaro video to know about this [ Ссылка ]). He eventually quit being a magistrate and lawyer and got into politics, Berlusconi wanted him to join his cabinet, but he joined Prodi instead, later he will make his own party Italy of Values.
He was a member of the Italian and European Parliament, was one of the figureheads of Anti-Berlusconism and was one of the main parties of the left wing coalition between 2006 and 2008, however due to troubles with the law and party problems, Di Pietro left his own party and became an independent.
Furthermore, he is remembered today as a hypocrite who prosecuted people for overblown crimes, hence creating human scapegoats, just so that people would see him as a hero and vote for him instead.
