Introduction to guitar TAB, description of 'Pull Off' and how it looks in TAB.
APOLOGIES - I only noticed after editing that I was playing frets 9 and 7 instead of frets 11 and 9 shown on the TAB. The technique and method is the same regardless of the fret positions.
Pick the first note and then 'pull off' or remove the finger you used to fret the note so that the second note sounds without being picked. In this example we are pulling off to another fretted note so our hand position and fingering is really important - we need to fret the second note before pulling off the first one.
This is a technique that will come with practice and muscle memory - it is the opposite to the hammer on I demonstrated in my previous video. Just like the hammer on you need to find the right balance of how much force to use; if you do it too slowly you will accidentally deaden the second note - if you do it too aggressively your hand will get tired quickly and you run the risk of accidentally bending the second note or sounding other strings.
Some players perform the pull off by 'flicking' the string very slightly in line with the fret as they remove the finger. This method is perfectly okay but requires additional speed and coordination to make sure you don't accidentally bend the first note.
As always use whichever method works best for you to get the notes sounding accurate and cleanly.
