In this video, I’ll do some maintenance on my lathe, the wipers protecting the space between the ways and the carriage are dried out and don’t prevent grit and debris from going under the carriage. This creates a undesirable situation where the lathe will deteriorate by slowly grinding down the ways and damaging the carriage itself.
Todays repair even if it’s meant to last quite a while is a temporary one, the simplest solution is to order some new wipers from the distributor. Another solution would be to eventually make some support plates to keep the leather, felt or just any appropriate material in proper working order and keep the ways clean from debris that could enter under the carriage…
If you ever own a lathe that doesn’t have any of this type of protection it’s time of getting inspired of this and think if you could ever make yourself a system that could protect your lathe and help it last longer…
Thank you for watching and I hope you like this type of video…
A thumbs up, a comment and even better a subscription is always a great way to say you appreciate the efforts I put in the making of those videos… 😉
