A beautiful poem written by Poet Laureate, Simon Armitage, to mark the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Lily of the valley, one of the Queen's favourite flowers, is mentioned in the elegy. This exquisitely scented bloom was included in the her coronation bouquet in 1953. Her childhood nickname was Lilibet and the poem also refers to lily of the valley as 'a namesake almost'.

Did you notice that in the poem, Simon use the form of a double acrostic? The first letter of each line of each stanza spells out Elizabeth.
