Yang Dan at UC Berkeley captures images of what cat sees. This is strong evidence that seeing, hearing and sending images and sounds to and from brains has been figured out in the past. The only difference is that Dan apparently connects wires directly to neurons.
On the left is the cat's view and on the right a camera. Notice how a guy, who must be an assistant or fellow researcher right zig heils or high fives the viewer.
