Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden will on Thursday announce a mega deal on the purchase of General Atomics MQ-9 "Reaper" armed drones by India, the White House has said, a move which would further bolster India's national security and surveillance capabilities not only in the Indian Ocean but also along the frontier with China.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Washington DC on Wednesday, after an eventful day in New York. He met First Lady of the US, Jill Biden, and visited the National Science Foundation in Alexandria, Virginia. Later in the day, he met US President Joe Biden, who hosted a private dinner for him in Washington DC. Jill Biden gave out details of the state dinner to be hosted for PM Modi, by her and US President Joe Biden at the White House. During his first leg of the US visit in New York, he led the celebrations of the International Day of Yoga at the United Nations Headquarters. In the second leg of his maiden state visit to the US, PM Modi will hold bilateral talks with President Joe Biden and address a joint session of the US Congress. Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden will host him for a state dinner on Thursday.
