Norway is portrayed as a "miracle" for the introduction of EV cars. Foreigners may get the impression that "everyone" in Norway drives an electric car, and it's no wonder: All car advertisements include battery cars, in 2022 the car industry set a sales record for new cars, of which almost 80% were battery cars - and in and around the capital the E-registered cars are everywhere. But is everything as successful as it seems?
The electric car boom does not come from the market. It is politically induced through huge subsidy schemes that make battery cars cheaper than fuel cars in the land of taxes and fees. And from 2025 it‘ll be prohibited to sell new petrol and diesel cars in Norway. Yes: 2025!
This extreme political campaign has turned Norway into a laboratory for the world's car industry. It has created shock waves for the car dealers, major problems for car customers, great injustice for motorists, and now the flip side of the coin is getting hard to hide.
Welcome to a sober review of the EV car miracle in Norway, by author, journalist and podcaster Kent Andersen.
