Pain is a clue to increased tumor diameter, increased invasion depth, and perineural invasion (Clin Exp Dermat 2020: 45: 180- 186)😱
Precancerous spots (Actinic Keratoses) are painful approx 15% of the time while true, invasive SCCs are painful on palpation about 29% of the time. Pain WITHOUT palpation (spontaneous pain) is seen in 1% of Aks and about 7% of SCCs.
