When considering property taxes in East Texas or Texas in general, several factors impact the tax rate. Firstly, properties located outside of city limits or ETJ (extraterritorial jurisdiction) tend to have lower property taxes compared to those within city limits. Secondly, rural counties typically have lower property taxes than urban or high-density population counties. Thirdly, purchasing a property with agricultural exemption significantly reduces property taxes, provided you produce from the land or convert it to a wildlife exemption. Lastly, ensuring you have a homestead exemption on your primary residence can further reduce taxes. To find the county with the lowest property taxes in East Texas, further research is needed.
