Sandra Bloodworth, MTA Arts for Transit and Urban Design Director, takes us on a visual journey through the MTA's subway system by inviting us to focus on the power of art to transform public spaces. To tell the story of the amazing rebirth of the New York's subway system over the past three decades, Sandra tours stations, both elevated and subterranean, where the introduction of permanent art has transformed the everyday experience of straphangers.
Sandra joined Arts for Transit in 1988 as a manager, became deputy director in 1992 and director in 1996. In 2005, Sandra received the Fund for the City of New York's Sloan Public Service Award in recognition of her work in the field of public art. She is coauthor of Along the Way: MTA Arts for Transit.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event,
TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
