Here are four commonly cited biblical reasons for divorce;
The first is adultery. Jesus allows for divorce in cases of infidelity by a spouse as explained in Matthew 19:9.
The second is abandonment by a Non-Believer. Paul indicates that a Christian may divorce if deserted by an unbelieving spouse as explained in 1 Corinthians 7:15.
The third is Physical and Emotional Abuse. Many Christian theologians and churches consider sustained physical or emotional abuse as valid grounds for divorce.
And the fourth reason is neglect or Breach of Marriage Vows. Persistent failure to fulfill fundamental marital responsibilities can be grounds for divorce according to some Christian interpretations.
