As an avid amateur Belfast history buff, let me commend 'Roselawn 2021', to you.
'Roselawn 2021', is the latest Belfast cemetery 'epistle' and the fourth in a number of books, by local man Peter McCabe. A few years back Peter produced a book on Belfast City Cemetery. This was followed up by another covering Dundonald Cemetery and here we have a fourth one covering Belfast's newest cemetery, Roselawn, opened in 1954.
Roselawn 2021 takes the reader on a series of walking trails around the cemetery. Grave headstones in the various trails are listed in the various chapters, under headstones titles such as 'Quirky', 'Sports' , 'World War,' Clergy, etc. Peter's incredible encyclopedic knowledge and enthusiasm of everything 'grave', shines through every page. His research is far reaching and meticulous. Here we have 160 pages and associated photographs about Roselawn cemetery all for £10. Well worth it, for anyone like me, who enjoys local history. The book is a very easy read. I know I will return to it, as a reference book. I don't believe anyone else has ever written a book on Roselawn cemetery, so I can say without fear of contradiction that this is the best book I have ever read on Roselawn cemetery! I found it a fascinating 'eyeopener'. As I read, I found myself saying 'I didn't know that!', very often. The subject is handled sensitively. Peter's granny and grandad are also buried in Roselawn. The folk occupying these graves were all loved and were all some mother's son or daughter. These people deserve to be remembered. I thoroughly recommend Peter McCabe's new Belfast cemetery volume 'Roselawn 2021'. It is history brought alive.
