See what happens when we decomissioned the 14.1 Tesla super conducting magnet from one of our 600 MHz NMR spectrometers. The magnet essentially consists of a super conducting wire coil, immersed in a very large vacuum flask of liquid helium (at around 4 Kelvin), which is in turn immersed in another very large vacuum flask of liquid nitrogen. When we broke the vacuum seals by introducing room temperature helium gas, the liquid helium almost instantaneously vapourises.
