In this episode we leave on our biggest van adventure yet! We drive 'Essy' (our van) from Campbell River, BC to Port Hardy, BC where we board a large vehicle ferry that sails north through the inside passage to Prince Rupert, BC. After a quick stopover to visit friends, we continue driving north for 1900km (1200 miles) to Tombstone Territorial Park.
From the official park site:
"Tombstone Territorial Park's 2,200 kilometre protect a unique wilderness of rugged peaks, permafrost landforms and abundant wildlife, all reflected in a rich First Nations culture. The area's Hän name Ddhäl Ch'èl Cha Nän means "ragged mountain land." The park is a legacy of the Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in Land Claim Agreement and lies within their Traditional Territory." We’re joined by our friends Erin and Simon who are travelling with us for two weeks. Together, we’ll be road tripping and camping together!
Our hike in Tombstone is a four day, three night trip. We stay overnight at Grizzly, Talus and Divide lake. A big thanks to Erin for booking these campsites months in advance!!
It was a really special time to be visiting this park. Even though it was still August when we arrived, the fall colours had already started to show. Brilliant red and yellow foliage surrounded us while we hiked. To make it even more magical, the astro-report showed that their was a strong chance to see the northern lights! We were all really excited.
On a personal note, we had the chance to meet many amazing hikers at each of the camps! One such person is Rachel Jones Ross ([ Ссылка ]). She’s a professional photographer, and spent three weeks perfecting her shots of the park. It was a pleasure to meet a creative and see her dedication to her art! It’s worth it to check out her photos of the Northern Lights on her IG account: [ Ссылка ]
The hike was incredible and it was amazing to get to share it with our good friends Erin and Simon.
We’ve been on the road for two weeks now. We’re starting to get a hang of the van life routines!
Stay tuned for our next video where we will share more of our travels around the Yukon!
