Medicare and Medicaid - What's the difference? Medicare and Medicaid often get confused for one another because they look and sound almost identical. However, they typically serve two different groups of people.
The quick and easy way to remember is that MedicAID is sort of like financial aid with health coverage for those with low incomes.
MediCARE is the federal healthcare program for senior over age 65 or people of any age who are disabled, diagnosed with End Stage Renal Disease, or ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease).
