DAILY DOSE | Forty-three years ago, Israeli forces executed one of the most brave and daring missions in the country's history — the rescue of the over 100 hostages at a Uganda airport. Ex-Mossad agent Avner Avraham discusses with host Jeff Smith.
Story:
In 1976, a handful of pro-Palestinian German and Palestinian hijackers took an Air France plane hostage and forced it to land at Entebbe's main airport.
On arrival, Jewish and Israeli hostages were separated while others freed, leaving about 100 hostages and crew members guarded by the hijackers.
The hostage drama ended after six days following an Israeli special op that saw 200 elite commandos land at the Entebbe airport to free the passengers.
It took the IDF paratroopers less than an hour to storm the base and free over 100 passengers aboard an Air France plane, an operation that has gone down in special forces legend.
Of the 106 remaining hostages, 102 were rescued and three were killed.
The only Israeli soldier killed in the daring raid was 30-year old Lieutenant- Colonel Yonatan Netanyahu, the brother of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
