Bally is a Grey-Headed Flying-Fox who was seen high in a tree during the day for 3 days, out of the colony.
An attempt at rescue was made on day 2 but was unsuccessful due to location and weather conditions.
On day 3, resources were combined and the rescue was ultimately successful.
In care, Bally was assessed, given fluids and analgesia, and offered a few grapes.
He had been on the ground at some stage, and he'd been in the tree for 3 days, so perhaps he'd been without food for a week or so. He was hungry and really enjoyed his grapes.
Whether or not they eat is not a good indicator of their physical condition. There is a strong survival instinct and an instinct to appear normal.
Unfortunately despite intensive care, he went flat and died about 18 hours after rescue.
RIP Bally the Sneaky Bat.
Thanks Ben Severance for the video footage.
