The opioid crisis continues to ravage the country and province, and the COVID-19 pandemic has made a dreadful situation worse. The crisis is even more acutely felt in northern Ontario where the overdose death rate was more than double the provincial average in 2019, and the rate of opioid-related hospitalizations in the first quarter of 2020 for the northeast was triple the provincial average.
