In a powerful display of solidarity, journalists, writers and public intellectuals gathered at New Delhi’s Press Club of India to protest the police raids on over 40 journalists associated with or contributors to NewsClick, a Delhi-based news portal, and the arrest of its founder-editor, senior journalist Prabir Purkayastha, in a case filed under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). Dozens of journalists, some wearing black badges and holding placards, including some renowned figures from the media fraternity, gathered to reiterate that journalism is not a crime. They condemned the attack on press freedoms and the invoking of a draconian anti-terror law against journalists.
