When Jodi Arias filed a 12 page letter requesting that her lawyer Kirk Nurmi be removed from her case, she revealed a text message exchange between Travis and a woman named Chaitanya Lay. Jodi mentions that the text contains communications between the two confirming that the two had sexual relations. One might argue that Jodi could have made this up. Common sense for a normal person would dictate that at such a critical time in her trial, she wouldn't make up such a story, knowing that the content of text messages was subpoenaed into evidence from the phone companies and could be verified. For now, let's assume Jodi would have that common sense. In addition, Jodi would surely realize that making such a statement could have legal consequences if untrue, both criminally and civilly.
Travis having sexual relations with another woman might have been hurtful to Jodi in itself but this particular woman, Chaitanya Lay, was seen in a photograph sitting beside Jodi in a limo in one of Jodi's MySpace photo albums. As of the video upload date (10/25/2013), Chaitanya is still listed as one of Jodi's MySpace connections. Could it be that Jodi was not just upset that Travis slept with another woman, but slept with one of her friends?
Throughout the trial it was mentioned that Jodi constantly looked at Travis' text messages and was shocked to see what she found. This led to their initial breakup. If this text message exchange really did happen between Travis and Chaitanya, then it's unclear exactly when it took place. If it took place close to the time of Travis' death, then it's possible that it could've been a triggering factor in the rage that led to his murder. UPDATE: In the penalty re-trial it was revealed that these text messages between Travis and Chaitanya took place in May of 2008, just weeks before the murder.
On the day Travis died, June 4, 2008, Jodi did have access to his cell phone voicemail PIN (as it was revealed when she used it to check his voicemail messages 6 hours after she killed him). It's possible she may have gone through his text messages prior to killing him. Email on Travis' laptop was accessed 30 minutes before he died. In addition, Jodi reportedly hacked into Travis' Facebook & email accounts a week earlier. Whatever she discovered or whatever happened in that week leading up to the moment on June 4 is likely what triggered & pushed her over the edge.
