Learn how to assess for diastasis recti or abdominal separation postpartum.
Diastasis recti is the separation of the rectus abdominus muscle along the midline of the abdomen at the linea alba. The linea alba is the midline of the abdomen which is made up of connective tissue that weakens or stretches out resulting in this separation due to increased intra-abdominal pressure.
Abdominal separation is common in pregnant and postpartum individuals due to a growing belly and increased pressure in the abdomen! You will typically see doming" or “coning" which can be seen during pregnancy or after delivery. It’s also common to see an “indentation”.
BUT pregnancy and delivery are not the only cause of a diastasis recti! It’s also prevalent in people that do heavy weight lifting activities and after abdominopelvic surgery!
It’s important to breathe properly and avoid heavy lifting post surgery and postpartum!
After the line alba separates, soft tissue restrictions or adhesions can form and inhibit the rectus abdominus from coming together again! It’s critical to approximate or bring the linea alba to midline to avoid lumbopelvic dysfunction and pain!
Visceral manipulation, exercise, stretching, diaphragmatic breathing, and strengthening are important to restore abdominal stability and support.
The Belly Whisperer Method can be used to decrease adhesions, improve organ motility/mobility, gut motility, and normalize unhealthy tissues in the abdominopelvic region causing dysfunction and pain!
I have a created a unique series of BELLY techniques and treatments for my patients suffering from abdominopelvic dysfunction. The video shows a quick demo of a treatment technique used in The Belly Whisperer Method!
