Long before Marathon/Millcreek Broadcasting made signal upgrades to 107.9, the station aired an 80s-intensive "hard rock" format that would be a welcome addition to today's FM dial. The station used a clever FCC legal ID that used a man named "Roy," to whom the station voice replies, "K-Rock is KRKR, Roy" (cleverly using the fictional character's name to serve as the city of license).
This recording, from February 18, 1997, was made months before the station flipped to KSNU "Sunny" (an adult contemporary station), and then KFVR "Fever" (a "jammin' oldies" station), and finally KUDD "Dianna"/"Power" (a top-40 station).
