South African politician Lindiwe Sisulu is set to announce her new party membership after a disagreement with the Government of National Unity (ANC-DA). Sisulu, who has a prestigious background in the ANC, has resigned as a Member of Parliament and has held various ministerial positions in various fields. However, her influence remains debatable, and her resignation raises questions about the future of South African politics and the dynamics within the ANC.
The ANC's WhatsApp group, which was meant to be a safe space for allies to plot and strategize, has turned into a hotbed of ideological conflict, with passionate ANC leader Andile Lungisa leading the opposition to the DA's membership in the government of national unity (GNU). Last week, the Blue Party threatened to leave the GNU after Social Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu published an article claiming that President Cyril Ramaphosa had reneged on a pledge to the DA.
Human Settlements Minister Mamoloko Kubayi reprimanded Lungisa for his impolite remarks, but he remained uncompromising, drawing a sharp "red line" against any cooperation with the DA. Lungisa reaffirmed his opposition to the DA, stating that serving the people will always be his first priority, not expediency or careerism.
