"We share a common opinion that the root cause of terrorism that must be eliminated are not only the political, social, and cultural injustices, but also the economic injustice prevailing in some parts of the world. STORYLINE:
Indonesia and Bulgaria on Saturday pledged to work together to fight global terrorism and to strengthen their economic ties.
Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov, on a three-day visit to Indonesia, also told reporters that the United Nations had a crucial role to play in global security and that its role should be strengthened.
"That organization should be enhanced so that it can continue to play its very important role in eliminating and containing hotbeds of tension and conflict worldwide," he said.
Bulgaria is a strong supporter of the U.S.-led war on terror and has sent troops to serve under British commanders in Iraq, despite the lack of U.N. authorization.
Indonesian President Megawati Sukarnoputri said focusing on social and economic injustice could help fight terrorism.
"Injustice serves as a fertile ground that could be taken advantage of by terrorist groups hiding behind the pretense of defending the disenfranchised," she said.
Parvanov, who is due to leave Sunday, is the first Bulgarian leader to visit Indonesia. Indonesia's first president, Sukarno - father of Megawati - visited Sofia in the early 1960s.
