Today we take a look at the "Pond in a Jar" nano tank I built back in February 2022. It has been over a year and a half since I put this together. I'm curious to see how our large aquatic earthworms are doing in this planted nano aquarium.
Our dominant plant in this aquarium is called Slender Spikerush. It resembles a bundle of green pine needles. The spikerush has done a great job acting as a natural bio filter in this tank. Other elements such as algae and fungi are seemingly non-existent. As they struggle to compete against the aggressive Spikerush.
The aquatic worms that hitchhiked into the tank during setup have done quite well. They have become the most dominant life form in this project. Looking closely I even managed to find a few dozen offspring.
Having successfully reproduced these large aquarium worms, I am officially including them in the so called BucketPonds Creature Collection. Meaning that we can now add them to various other jars and aquariums.
Our wild caught ostracods and microfauna have thrived as well. Their populations easily reaching the hundreds as they feed and reproduce in this jar aquarium. Keep in mind that this jar has never had a water change and I perform no routine maintenance on this tank.
