A Duluth head shop is back open after police raided it Wednesday afternoon. According to the owner of the Last Place on Earth officers took all of the shop's synthetic marijuana, money and many of its guns.
The Duluth Police Department said the search was part of an investigation into the sale of illegal synthetic marijuana.
"We've lost a ton of business," said Jim Carlson, owner of the Last Place on Earth.
For five hours Wednesday afternoon the shop was closed to customers as Duluth police searched the Last Place on Earth.
"They took all of our money and all of our hunting guns," said Carlson. "To try and prevent me from hunting this fall is ridiculous. They are just trying to make me more miserable."
Two officers stood outside the doors, while police carried out multiple boxes and guns. Carlson said police cleared out all his synthetic marijuana, took all of his money and seized 31 of his guns.
"They didn't get them all," said Carlson about his guns. "They missed some. I got one right on me right now."
There are both legal and illegal types of synthetic marijuana. It all depends on the type of chemical on the herbs. But according to the police, this raid was an investigation into the sale of illegal synthetic marijuana at the shop. Carlson said he's done nothing wrong.
"It makes me mad when they don't come in and test the stuff," said Carlson. "They just come in and harass us."
When the store was closed some of the regular customers milled around on the sidewalk yelling obscenities at the police, protesting the raid.
"It's pretty bogus," said regular customer Cody Olson.
"It's pretty crappy," said Gerrard Foot, who visits Last Place on Earth every day.
"I think it's lame," said Mark Kovach. "I think they are violating our constitutional rights."
Carlson feels much the same way.
"I don't think anything they took was illegal," said Carlson. "I think it's strictly harassment seizing our property and our money.
Carlson also said police arrested his son earlier in the day for selling illegal "herbal incense." However no charges were filed and the son was released.
No one from Duluth Police Department was available for an on-camera interview.
