Ontario Premier Doug Ford, alongside Deputy Premier and Health Minister Christine Elliott and Minister of Environment, Conservation and Parks Jeff Yurek announced on Saturday that the province will begin opening provincial parks and conservation reserves for limited day-use.
The first areas will open on Monday, May 11, with the remaining areas opening on Friday, May 15.
Ford said they would be open for activities including hiking, biking, walking, and bird watching, but that access to camping, playgrounds and beaches would continue to remain closed.
Ontario reported 346 new cases of the novel coronavirus Saturday morning, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 19,944.
59 new deaths were also announced, bringing the total fatalities attributed to the virus in the province to 1,599.
