Greater Flamingos are abundant in Southern France. I was taken by how they often move their legs in funny ways that looks like they're dancing. The Spanish name for Flamingo is "Flamenco", and perhaps this movement is why (actually, both the dance's and the bird's names probably come from the old Spanish or Portuguese word "flamengo", meaning flame). From what I have read online, this sort of "stomping" in the mud around their feet is done to stir up some food. In any case, it's an enjoyable sight.
