Viewers could also enjoy a slew of guest stars. Few other shows could match up to the hundreds and hundreds of other expert actors who would come by the ranch. The Rifelamn’s director gave it a unique visual style. It made you feel like you were in the Wild West, even if you were technically in California. It was one of the most violent on TV. Lucas McClain’s gun was so prevalent that it was like a character of its own. It may not have been historically accurate, but seeing and hearing it go off was a thrill for viewers.

At the same time, each episode was like a Western fable. They were meant to teach viewers lessons about themes such as forgiveness. There was also an unfortunate aspect that set The Rifleman apart. It didn’t get a decades-long run like Bonanza or other Western shows of its time. It only had five seasons then abruptly ended. There was a final episode, but fans are still scratching their heads as to why it came so early in the show's run.
