Set amongst thirty acres of privately-owned rainforest next to the pristine pools of Cedar Creek, it really is the perfect introduction to what’s on offer on the Gold Coast.
Offering visitors a unique way to explore the popular landmark of Tamborine Mountain from a perspective like none other, this is a great activity for the thrill-seekers. The skywalk soars alongside the rainforest canopies, looking out over pretty rock pools and rich vegetation.
With over 30 acres of rainforest to explore, an eco-adventure like you’ve never experience awaits. The walk spans over a kilometre and a half and is about a 45-minute walk unless you plan on stopping to take a photo of the diverse range of Australian flora and fauna on display. The skywalk is a triage of forest floor trails, a bridge high above the upper canopies of the forest and a footbridge over the creek.
The walk itself takes place along a steel, structured bridge that guides visitors through the canopies of the rainforest. Be sure to take in the stunning scenery and stop along the way to read the information signs and educational panels. It encompasses a range of floor trails and 300-metre steel bridges that let you discover the different layers of the forest.
The route winds its way past a collection of unique flora and fauna, giving you the chance to learn more about the fascinating wildlife of the region. At one point, you’ll emerge onto a 40-metre cantilever bridge that sits 30 metres above the mesmerising creek and rainforest below, providing you with a unique perspective of the surroundings.
Things do to at the Tamborine Rainforest Skywalk
It’s not just the skywalk that draws visitors to the region – there are plenty of other things to see and do while you’re there.
In the rainforest Eco Gallery, you can discover the different species of animals that live in the forest and learn more about the fascinating natural history and heritage of the region. You can also learn more about the eclectic selection of flora and fauna that characterises the area and discover why it is such an important region in Australian history.
As well as the interpretative panels that decorate the walk, there is also an aquarium that is home to a huge number of Australian freshwater fish.
Inside the centre, you’ll come across the Birdwing Café which serves up a delicious array of cakes and traditional savoury items. There’s also a gallery on-site with dioramas on Australian animals and plant life, as well as the history of the Indigenous Australian people that live in the Mount Tamborine area. After you’ve explored, head to the gift shop to purchase a souvenir from your time in Mount Tamborine.
Away from the Skywalk, you can explore the rest of the scenery of the Tamborine National Park, where the landscape is characterised by more lush rainforest and pretty waterfalls. Here, you can take several different bushwalks and cool off in the collection of plunge pools that dot the region.
