Japanese star Naoya Inoue will defend his undisputed super bantamweight championship against Luis Nery at the Tokyo Dome in Japan.
Inoue is a four-weight world champion and a pound-for-pound star. The former light flyweight, super flyweight, and bantamweight titleholder stopped Paul Butler in December 2022 to become the first undisputed champion at 118 pounds in half a century.
Always up to challenge himself, Inoue then ran through Stephen Fulton in July to become the WBC and WBO super bantamweight titleholder. In his most recent outing, in December, "The Monster" defeated Marlon Tapales via knockout to claim the WBA, IBF, and Ring Magazine belts.
With the victory over Tapales, Inoue became the first undisputed super bantamweight champion ever, as well as one of four active two-weight undisputed champions in boxing today. Katie Taylor, Claressa Shields and Terence Crawford are the others.
Nery turned pro in 2012. The Mexican-born star beat Shinsuke Yamanaka in 2017 for the WBC and Ring bantamweight title, but after testing positive for the banned substance zilpaterol, Nery was stripped of The Ring title.
After missing weight ahead of the Yamanaka rematch, Nery was also stripped of the WBC title and banned from competing in Japan. That ban appears to have been lifted to make this fight a reality.
Since his second win over Yamanaka, the 29-year-old Nery has gone 9-1. "Pantera" beat Aaron Alameda in 2020 for the WBC super bantamweight title before losing it to Brandon Figueroa.
Winner of four straight since 2022, Nery's last fight was a TKO win over Froilan Saludar in July.
