(23 Feb 2009) HEADLINE: Something 'fishy' about popular pedicure?
CAPTION: A trendy pedicure with fish that nibble dead skin from the feet has been nipped in the bud. The Florida Board of Cosmetology has banned the procedure, even before it was known to be offered anywhere in the state. (Feb. 23)

In Florida, state regulators are putting their foot down on this trendy type of pedicure.
The treatment, which is popular in Asia, involves a client sticking their feet in a bowl of water.
Then small fish, usually carp, nibble dead skin from the feet.
But the Florida Board of Cosmetology decided to ban the procedure-- even before it was known to be offered anywhere in the state.
SOT: "There are two standing rules that the fish pedicures violate. Animals and pets are prohibited in cosmetology salons and the pedicure sanitation requirements."
Alexis Antonacci/ Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation
Florida isn't the only state that has decided to ban the fish pedicures.
Texas, Washington, Massachusetts and New Hampshire have also outlawed the practice.
