Violet Carson made an unexpected final appearance in Coronation Street on 2 April 1980. In this clip, Ena announces to Ken and Albert that she is going to St. Anne's while her flat is being redecorated.
Violet Carson had been struggling with ill health since the mid-1970s and had made infrequent appearances through the latter half of the decade. She was always able to return to the show when she could, and was expected to return after this episode, but ill health kept her away. She passed away on Boxing Day 1983 aged 85.
Note - this clip is taken from the Granada Plus repeat, shown on 9 April 1998, and cuts her final ever line - "I don't suppose either of you thought of puttin' the kettle on, did yer?" (how silly).
