The Eagle Nebula (also known as Messier 16 or M16) is a young open cluster of stars in the constellation Serpens. It is located around 6,500 light-years away from Earth and is one of the most iconic and photogenic objects in the night sky. The Eagle Nebula is best known for its three pillars of gas and dust, which are illuminated by the ultraviolet light from the stars in the cluster. These pillars are known as the Pillars of Creation.
